Once Q and his entourage left the office, Tonya began to cheer up almost instantly. She became less antisocial, and she and Na’eema began to tackle their daily workload together, in peace and harmony. Within a few hours things were back to normal. By now it was lunchtime. Tonya and Na’eema decide to head outside for lunch. Needless to say, they both weren’t in the mood for anything fancy, so instead they opted for a street food vendor to buy a hot dog that the streets of midtown Manhattan are so famous for.

The two women were so hungry that they practically inhaled their two hot dogs. Then they washed the food down with a soda. During the course of their makeshift luncheon Na’eema could feel the good vibe that they always shared continuing to slowly return.

Being that it was such a nice day, Tonya and Na’eema took a walk around the block before returning to the office building. As they made their way closer to the building entrance, Tonya noticed Karen outside smoking a cigarette.

“I’m in love with a stripper,” Karen sang as Tonya went through the door.

At first Tonya thought it was just a pure coincidence, until Karen passed by her office later that afternoon, singing the hit R&B tune again. Na’eema noticed it, too. At first Tonya didn’t know what to make of it, but Karen kept repeating it as they walked by. This forced Tonya and Na’eema to really pay attention.

“Yo, Tonya, you heard that bitch?” Na’eema asked while they boarded the elevator.

“Think I didn’t, when I did?” she replied.

“You think she just sayin’ it to be sayin’ it? Or she found out somethin’ ’bout you?” Na’eema inquired. “This ain’t a coincidence.”

“I don’t think so, either.”

It seemed like every day Karen would come up with a different way to irk them. To Tonya and Na’eema it seemed like she stayed up nights conjuring up ways to get under their skin. But before this Karen had been a little more subtle with her games. Not anymore.

She definitely knows about me, Tonya thought. Who she been talking to? She knew just who to ask.
